Trevoh Chalobah set for ultimate Chelsea reward after Enzo Maresca request

Trevoh Chalobah is set to be a late addition to Thomas Tuchel's England squad, with the Chelsea defender expected to replace the injured Marc Guehi, football.london understands.

The 26-year-old Blues centre-back has been an ever-present figure for Enzo Maresca this season - starting 10 of his team's 11 Premier League games, with the only match he missed due to suspension. Chalobah has been part of a Chelsea defence that has kept clean sheets in half of his league appearances this term.

His form has been recognised by his former Chelsea head coach Tuchel, who is set to call upon Chalobah for the Three Lions' World Cup qualifiers at home to Serbia on Thursday evening and away in Albania on Sunday. Guehi, who missed Crystal Palace's draw with Brighton at the weekend due to an injury, has now withdrawn from the squad.

Chalobah will join Reece James as the two Chelsea players in the latest England camp with seven months until the World Cup gets underway. Tuchel's side secured qualification for the 2026 tournament when they thrashed Latvia 5-0 last month, with Chalobah, who made his senior England debut in June against Senegal, hoping to be part of the squad next summer.

The Cobham graduate was recalled from his loan at Crystal Palace back in January due to an injury crisis in the centre of defence at Stamford Bridge. Ever since, Chalobah has been right at the forefront of Maresca's thinking - with the defender featuring in 38 of Chelsea's 50 matches in all competitions since returning to the club.

Despite being frozen out of the first-team picture in the summer of 2024, Chalobah returned to the club and flourished for the remainder of the 24/25 campaign. The centre-back played a big part in the Blues' success at the end of the season, according to Maresca, who has been nothing but complimentary of Chalobah's impact in SW6.

"Since he came back in January, he's doing very well," the Chelsea head coach said. "The reason why we achieved what we achieved last season is also because of Trev. In the final against PSG in the Club World Cup, he was top and he is doing very well and we are happy with him."
